25th September is ‘Back to church Sunday’ – with 3 Harvest Services that day, why not choose one? There will be a warm welcome everywhere. Parish Priest: Fr Brian Faulkner, The Rectory, School Road, Erpingham 01263 768073 e-mail: brian-faulkner@lineone.net www.scarrowbeckbenefice.org.uk FROM THE RECTOR
We live in a society where agriculture shapes our landscape and provides us with necessities needed by all; good reason to have farms and farming central to our thinking as the churches celebrate Harvest Festival. This year, for the first time, the Group Service at Ingworth Church on 4th September will have a Harvest theme – an appropriate venue, as on the following Sunday Ingworth will be hosting the Trosh, a different way of celebrating all things agricultural. Later in the month, several of our churches will also be keeping their own Harvest Festivals.* As the days begin to shorten and as autumn colours dominate our landscape, let us give thanks to God for the good things of creation, and for a deeper appreciation of what is ours to share. Serious and fun-runners alike are invited to enjoy a rare opportunity to run, jog or simply walk the dog through the landscaped grounds of Barningham Hall on Saturday 1st October, between 1pm and 5pm at the first Barningham 5k-ish Run.
Set in Humphry Repton designed parkland surrounding Barningham Hall, the multi-terrain route takes in woodland, grazing land, and a circuit of the lake, and finishes up the West Avenue towards the front of the Hall, which dates from 1612.
A 1 mile (1.6k) Junior Run will also take place immediately before the main run starts, with winners’ medals and goody bags for all finishers. Both races are raising funds for outdoor sports and play equipment for Aldborough Primary School.
As well as fete games and a guided warm-up
before the start, teas and coffees, yummy hot food and home-made cakes will be available throughout the afternoon in the historic stable courtyard.
The 1 mile Junior Run commences at 2pm, with a 2.30pm start for the 5k-ish Run, staggered by ability. Walkers and dogs are welcome, but dogs must be kept on a lead due to grazing sheep. Registration for runners will cease 15 minutes before each race starts and race numbers will be allocated at this time.
Race entry is £5 for over 15s and £3 for under 15s. Entry forms are available from Intersport at Bakers & Larners in Holt; the Spar shop on Aldborough Green and GF White Butchers, 16 Red Lion Street, Aylsham – or runners can enter on the day.
Further information is available from Kirsty White, tel: 01263 735575.
