YOUNG PEOPLE (CPAK)

CPAK - what on earth does that mean?

A few years ago a group of young people from these parishes were invited to choose a name for themselves and this is what they came up with, Christian People Are Kool, and they are still known as CPAK (pronounced See pack)..

They meet 2 or 3 times a year at the Rectory, for a barbecue, a pizza party, a jacket potato or a hot dog,
AND
they have a weekend in February at the Diocesan Activities Centre at Horstead, where they can experience archery, climbing, canoeing, and other exciting adventurous ways of getting to know each other.

In 2011 18 of us yet again set off to Horstead for another great weekend.  Harriet, Emily and I were looking forwards to helping out more as we have been so many times, whereas for some of the others it was their first trip! Activities included canoeing (luckily not in the snow this year), climbing, zip wire and crate stacking, a new activity this year, which provided much entertainment as two people balanced precariously on an ever increasing tower of crates.

The theme for the weekend was bread so we also all enjoyed making rolls to tie in with the story of the feeding of the five thousand.

Overall it was yet another great weekend – thanks to everyone who came and to Eleanor, Mike, Claire and Delia for making it such a memorable weekend.                                                                                                                          Rachel.

The young people ran a tuck shop over the Horstead weekend and raised £20.24 for Comic Relief, their chosen charity.  They provided the sweets and goodies and then bought them back to keep up their energy levels!

It was a great weekend, lots of fun and chatter but little sleep!                                                     Claire

THEY ENJOYED THEiR WEEKEND AT HORSTEAD  in FEBRUARY 2010 - Some reactions: -

Avril says  ...  I had fun at Horstead it was all very exciting, as it always is. When we went to the church on Saturday night it was so very beautiful! I cannot wait till next year; One of the best parts was when I did the water activities with my friends as I don't see them as often as I used to! I want to thank every one who helped as they made it very enjoyable! Thank you again.

Emily says ...   I always look forward to the Horstead weekend and this year was my fifth in attending.   That must indicate how     much fun it is!  We have a friendly bunch of young people and it's always good to be with old friends again.

Henry says ...   The Horstead weekend was pretty legendary and I really want to go again next year.  The canoeing was             immense and the food was tasty.  Thank you Eleanor and Delia for organising this for us.

Jill says ...  It's brilliant that they are all so enthusiastic and that Eleanor even managed to get Henry to read a passage at the presentation for parents.  The phrase "chipping away at the stone" comes to mind!
